Alouette Winter Talk - Cancelled

We are sorry to announce that the talk scheduled for next Wednesday 1 February 2012 has had to be cancelled due to illness and, at such short notice, it is impossible to find an alternative speaker.

But don't forget its still a club social night and the bar will be open so you are still welcome to come along.

Club Grub

The next Club Grub night date will be on Saturday 18th February.

Click here to join us for a great evening at the club.

Martin Robinson of AOPAAOPA Logo

On Wednesday 5th October Martin made a welcome return to Alouette, this time to talk to us about the forthcoming Olympic airspace restrictions that will, no doubt, affect us all in 2012.

Bob Ogley visits AlouetteBob Ogley

The well-known author Bob Ogley came along to give us a talk about Biggin Hill and his career as a journalist working for the Sevenoaks Chronicle.

He has written more than 20 books and, as a local man, its not surprising that these have included works about Biggin Hill.

A good audience!

At a well attended event Bob talked to us about some of the characters he has met at Biggin over the years and his light-hearted delivery kept the gathered audience entertained for what turned out to be a memorable evening.

Food!

As usual there was a good spread to satisfy the hungry members!

Club House re-painting - Completed!

With many thanks due to all the volunteers who turned up to help, we can now report that the club house has been restored to its former glory and is looking fit for purpose once again.

The weather was kind to us for once (!) and, thanks to a last minute surge of volunteers, the job was completed over the weekend.

Well deserved bacon butties all round!

A shabby looking club house as the work begins.

Work in progress, starting to look better.....

What a difference!

Job done, time for tea and a bacon sarnie. Job done, time for tea!

Waterford - or bust!

An account of a trip to Waterford, finally completed in August 2011 but attempted many, many times before!

Alouette member to attempt 15,000 mile cycle ride - Updated 18/8/11

*** Pat proposes to Laura ***

No doubt choosing the moment carefully, Pat proposed to Laura during their epic adventure, detailed below.

Read all about it here: http://www.pedallingabout.com/2011/08/12/celebrating-in-mendoza/

Congratulations from all your friends at Alouette.

***

Alouette member and PPL Pat (Paddy) Mottram and his friend Laura Pollitt are all set to start the adventure of a lifetime when they leave for South America next month. Their ambitious plan is to start and finish in Rio de Janeiro and to travel through every country and capital in South America.

They have been planning this trip for 18 months and, as you can imagine, there is a lot to consider especially as some of the areas they will go through are less than safe. Also, they will encounter some difficult terrain and harsh environments, such as the Atacama Desert and the Andes, so this won't be an easy task.

You can follow their adventures as they will be updating their website whilst away so take a look at;

http://www.pedallingabout.com/south-america/

Paddy and Laura are supporting ABC, the Brazil Children's Trust, through their efforts and would be grateful for any donations which can be made through their website. The aim is to raise at least £5,000 so why not donate now? Just click the link to Donate

From all of us at Alouette, we wish you bon voyage and look forward to your safe return and to hearing some of the tales you will, no doubt, have to tell.
